"Never trust the calm of a wolf or the oath of a whore."
She dances and howls with the wolves among the wildwoods, her feet stained with mud and twigs and leaves - blood red, sunset orange, golden like her hair. They accept her, dirty face, torn dress, laughing like a woman mad. And mad, she is. Mad for the sunsets, mad for the wild air and birdsong, the elder trees she climbs, the blood on her face as she feasts. She hasn't tamed the wolves, they've brought out the inner beast. // 24. Fuck appropriation. THIS GOWN? who CARES if it’s inspired by whatever? If my culture (whatever it may be) inspired THIS gown? I’d be flattered, because it’s stunning. Zuhar Murad is a genius AND my favorite couture designer and i’m fairly certain he didn’t mean disrespect to anyone. Plus, to me this looks almost Indian (from India..) or Middle Eastern and the designer is Lebanese. So.. I’m fairly certain he’s allowed to be inspired by a culture similar to his own. [/bitchy rant]

Correct me if I’m wrong, but doesn’t this count as appropriation?

Excuse me, but I’ve noticed something recently.
No one objects it as “appropriation” when a Chinese man, for instance, wears clothing styles that originated in Europe and North America. That’s appropriation, isn’t it? Wearing something that doesn’t come from your culture because it’s “cool” and “fashionable”? Yet, no one says a word. It’s not “taboo” like wearing a warbonnet or tribal beads. Why? It’s the same scenario, but no one cares because it’s “normal” and “average” to wear those clothes. Because society thinks it’s better to wear Caucasian-originated clothing, because white is always better than tribal.

Dude, that’s not why at all.
People take offense to western society appropriating other cultures because we always have and continue to appropriate PoC cultures, and then act as if we have the right to take clothing and symbols from the cultures regardless of context or the purpose of the clothing and symbols. It’s basically saying “Not only are we going to invade and colonize your countries, but we’re also going to disrespect your shit.”
As far as east Asian cultures taking on western practices, my guess for why that happened would be because WE FUCKING OCCUPIED THEM. When you occupy a country, your culture rubs off on that country. And believe it or not, a lot of people aren’t happy about it. A lot of people don’t like the way the west stomped all over other people’s lives and traditions and left such a permanent mark.
When Asian cultures wear westernized clothing, it’s not appropriation anymore than when Native Americans do it. It happens because fucking white people went and stuck their noses in where they don’t belong and changed everything.

Uh, actually, people DO have the right to wear shit from other cultures because they like how it looks. Not always tasteful or smart, but they do have the right to.
I don’t support how people think it’s funny to be a Native American for Halloween, but am I gonna bitch when they decide they look good as an accessory on an average day? No. They’re wearing one because they think it’s awesome and they love it enough to find or make one themselves. They aren’t mocking it, and they aren’t using it as a costume. You can’t say everyone that wears a warbonnet it disrespecting it, just because they themselves aren’t a Native American warrior.

*facepalm* Oh my fucking Gods, are you serious?
First of all, no, I am not ok with anyone using culture as a Halloween costume. You can’t dress up as a race as a costume. I can’t believe I still have to explain this to anyone.
Second of all, no, it is not ok for any ol’ person to wear a war bonnet. War bonnets are EARNED. They are SACRED. And you know what else? THEY ARE NOT TO BE WORN BY WOMEN. Every godamn person who thinks it’s ok to make and/or wear a war bonnet “because it’s a good accessory” is disrespecting the long-standing tradition of these war bonnets.
So you know what? Fuck your privileged ass. I love me some unfollow button.

Neither am I, you— did you READ what I wrote? Race does not fucking equal costume, I agree. It’s just as stupid as blackface paint, which, by the way, is unbelievably racist.
They were EARNED by things like being a great warrior, which pretty much meant being first in the bloodbath when fighting others. That really doesn’t apply anymore to this society, so can they still properly be earned? No, not really.
You know what? The right to have a beard used to be fucking earned, by killing in battle. If a man was disgraced or cowardly, they would shave his face. Is it a disgrace to that culture (which is, admittedly, long gone) to wear a beard nowadays? Nope.
And, yes, my white ass is privileged as fuck. I’m only a suspect 1/4 times, I’m attacked by rapists only 3/10 times, I’m far more likely to get a good job and be successful, and if I had a child I’d be far more likely to receive child support.

hitlershomeboy asked: what about you? any irrational fears/phobias? also, do you have a personal tumblr?

Water - I have an irrational fear of living bodies of water. Pools, hot tubs, etc., don’t bother me a bit. But lakes, rivers, the ocean - I cant go more than a few feets from shore, even though I’m a really strong swimmer. Its partly fear of drowning, partly fear of the fish/creatures in the water. Freaks me out. And, i intended this to be a personal tumblr, and then I just started blogging pictures and kinda forgot about the text blogs. :]
